Whistler HeliSledder
began operations in March 2005 after Land and Water,
BC granted Dave Mills a massive 25,000 acre tenure on
one of British Columbia’s most impressive ice systems – the
Pemberton Ice Cap.
On a snowmobile trip through the Callaghan to the Ice
cap almost 5 years ago, Dave Mills had a vision – to
provide others with the opportunity to enjoy his passion
for sledding in this amazing area that is difficult to
reach. Mills envisioned helicopter access to the Ice Cap
to permit riders of all abilities an experience on top
of the world.
After three years of planning and research, traversing
the ice fields by plane to study, photograph and map the
area (and a great deal of passion), Dave Mills successfully
secured one of the first tenures for guided tours covering
a large land mass - Whistler HeliSledder was born. Time
and effort paid off, and in addition to securing the tenure,
studies of the region now permit safe passage on the ice
until the end of July.
On March 11, 2005, Dave and a crew of snowmobilers, worked
with Black Tusk Helicopters to “drop” two customized
arctic environment containers, at 6500 feet. These containers
house the 6 Ski-Doo Rev 800 sleds and serve as the base
station for Whistler HeliSledder. |
